!Cognitive biases of the different stakeholders : Don't blame the data

As product managers, we rely heavily on gathering data in order to make product and business-related decisions. But even with the best intentions at heart, many times our decision-making is affected by inherent biases and preconceived notions - not by empirical data.

This is a universal pain across organizations. 

 

In this talk, we will reveal the most prominent cognitive biases and explore mitigation tips to make better data-driven decisions. From Sales to Marketing and from Support to Dev we'll dive into each stakeholder, cover the most painful bias, explore how it affects the product, and how to deal with them.

    Price is important to me, but quality and comfort are even more important in the long run. For things that I use every day, I prefer to pay a bit more if the quality is stable. At least here we can see more honest opinions and not only polished marketing content. Recently I have been testing several online eyewear shops to compare frames and lenses. A simple and honest answer like 鈥渨e do not have that option鈥?is better than marketing fluff.

    Reviews that mention long term use are more valuable than comments written on day one. Nobody wants pretty shoes that hurt after ten minutes of walking. Forums, blogs and communities create a kind of collective memory for shoppers. Sometimes customer service can fix a bad experience, but not always. Footwear is even harder because different brands cut shoes very differently.
